War against terror: SSS seals Abuja Supermarket, Park

wonderland_amusement_park_abujaOperatives of the State Security Service (SSS) on Saturday shut down the Amigos Supermarket, one of the largest supermarkets in Abuja and Wonderland Amusement Park, also in the nation’s capital.

It was learnt that the premises were sealed off, following the allegation that a co-owner of the centres was linked to terrorism activities in the country.

The Joint Task Force (JTF) in Kano had said that Mr Fauzi Fawad, a co-owner of the centres, had escaped after he was named a member of a Lebanese Hezbollah Terrorist Cell in Nigeria.

When contacted, the State Security Service (SSS’) Deputy Director on Publicity, Mrs Marilyn Ogar, confirmed the closure of the premises by the organisation.

She said the closure was to allow for smooth investigation of the involvement or otherwise of a co-owner of the business outfits in the recent discovery of arms and ammunition in Kano.

When customers besieged the business premises, the gates were under lock and key.

A security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the closure of the facilities was as a result of “order from above.”

The two commercial facilities, that were always at their peak of activities at weekends, were deserted.

The presence of armed security men at the premises, particularly Amigos Supermarket Wuse II, scared passersby as they hurried away or drove past the area.

As at the time of this report, armed security men were on guard at the premises to maintain law and order.
