tukur_dikkoThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a seven-man National Disciplinary Committee to ensure discipline among party members across the federation.

Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, the National Chairman of the party, inaugurated the committee headed by Dr Umaru Dikko.

He said that the choice of the committee members was painstakingly made with due consideration of their pedigree and love for discipline and the party.

Tukur stressed that Dikko was picked as chairman of the committee because of his uncompromising stance as it relates to discipline.

He said that Dikko’s love for the rule of law and defence of democracy in the country during the military era was also considered before he was picked.

He thanked the committee members for accepting to serve in the committee and expressed optimism that their effort would yield the desired discipline the party yearned for.

Tukur called on all who believe in democracy and discipline to support the committee members to actualise their objective.

Dikko, who spoke on behalf of members of the committee, thanked the party for the confidence reposed on them.

He said that the committee would do everything that was needed to move the party forward and ensure discipline among party members.

Chief Ebenezer Babatope is to serve as Deputy Chairman of the committee, while Mr Onwe Onwe will serve as its Secretary.

Other members of the committee include Hajiya Nana Aishat-Quadir, Alhaji Hussaini Duraki, Alhaji Shuaibu Oyedokun and Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

Iwuanyanwu and Babatope were however not at the inauguration.

Members of the committee were given appointment letters by the party`s national chairman after they were inaugurated.

Dikko was one of the advisers to former President Shehu Shagari and Minister of Transport in the Shagari administration of the second republic.

He played prominent roles as transport minister and head of the presidential task force on rice in that administration.

Dikko, who was born in 1936, fled to London on self exile after the military coup of Dec. 31, 1983, which overthrew the Shagari government.
