A three-storey building under construction collapsed at No. 24, Bashiru Street, Ojodu Berger, Lagos, on Tuesday and killed a worker, whlie four others were trapped under the rubble.

The Information Officer of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident in a telephone chat.

Farinloye said: “A three-story building has collapsed and we have confirmed that one person is dead while four other people are still trapped in there.

“Our search taps located and recovered one body and four people were also at different locations under the rubble.

“We are working towards rescuing the trapped workers.”

Farinloye said that an apprentice to the workers escaped because he was sent on an errand.

He also said that the lucky apprentice confirmed to NEMA the number of people who were trapped inside the rubble.

Farinloye said that while the rescue operation was on, a voice was heard calling for help.

“We just heard a voice speaking in Hausa language from under the rubbles and we are working to rescue him and others who have been trapped,” he said.
