Question……Did he (Nzeogwu) tell you that he planned the coup to become the Head of State?

Answer……..No. Infact what attracted me to Nzeogwu at the early stage when the coup was being planned was that I asked him if he was going to make himself the Head of State and he said no. He said he was going to bring a civilian who was more knowledgeable and who had what it took to make Nigeria great. I then asked him who that person was and he said the man was in Calabar prison. Your “history” has long been dented. It took sincere investigation to discover that it was not an Igbo coup. If you believe it was an Igbo coup then you must be very shallow. Pls go deep and discover that it was not an Igbo coup.

8266, why are you hiding? What Sagir said is true. Just lately when PDP zoned senate presidency we all saw what the Igbos did. They fought among themselves, senate leadership changed per second per second. One of them even took the mace to his village. Even if the rest of the country step aside and ask the Igbos to give us one person to be president, we may as we’ll wait for 4,years before we have them answer us.

if you strongly believe that N. Azikiwe’s and M.I. Okpara’s lives were spared because they were Igbo, how would you explain the fact that Obafemi Awolo also remained untouched, since he was also a principal actor on the Nigerian political scene at the relevant time? Or was he also spared because he was Igbo?

@ Mohd, first and foremost Azikwe was not in the country when the coup happened. You can verify this. Secondly, the officers sent to the East as it was agreed that people from a particular Region can not go to assassinate their kinsmen, people from the East did their job as planned whereas people from the North and West could not perform. The reason for this is that people like Nzeogwu lived in the North and knows the terrain whereas the reverse was the case for the people that went to the East. The result made the coup loop sided whereas in actual fact it was not the intended out come. Truth is that the North had Igbo phobia and west felt Igbo competition even as a late comer to Western Education the Igbos surpassed and every one was afraid of them not because of any crime but because of their enduring enterprise nature. I would even say the planners of the coup are Igbo heaters because the coup gave others ethnic groups who had Igbo phobia opportunity to carry out their long held hatred on Igbos using the coup as a guise and it worked out very well for them. Ndi Igbo had no reason even to plan to split Nigeria because they had everything going for them in the Republic called Nigeria so the coup was not in the best interest of Ndi Igbo.

Yea!!! but that does not answer the pertinent question earlier posed. If the January 15 coup was redemptive, why were N. Azikiwe and M.I. Okpara spared? You can not recount the folly of Nigerian nightmare without answering that question.
