2015: Jonathan, Danjuma in secret meeting

TY_danjumaCHIEF of Army Staff during the regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo between 1976 and 1979, Lt. General Theophilus Danjuma, and President Goodluck Jonathan met on Sunday behind closed doors.

A presidential source said Danjuma, also a Defence Minister between 1999 and 2003 during the Obasanjo civilian administration, was invited to the State House, Abuja because of his latest criticism of the Federal Government.

Danjuma had attacked the Jonathan administration’s inability to tackle the insecurity in the country, insisting that it may work against the perceived re-election bid of the president.

The source said the president told the former minister that he was trying his best to address the problem, saying it would take time.

Although the 2015 race was also ‘briefly discussed’, the source said Danjuma did not give an immediate answer. “He simply said he would discuss it later”.

Danjuma left immediately after the meeting.

A few minutes later, Jonathan departed for Yaounde, Cameroon to attend the summit of Heads of States and Governments of the Economic Community of Central African States, the Economic Community of West African States and the Gulf of Guinea Commission with a focus on maritime safety and security in the Gulf of Guinea.
