Former Super Eagles striker, John Utaka, found the back of the net for his French Ligue 1 club, Montpellier HSC at the weekend but the fantastic goal was not enough for the team to escape defeat in the hands of SC Bastia at Stade Armand Césari-Furiani, as they lost 3-1.
The Utaka’s well executed goal was his sixth of the season.
The 31-year-old Nigerian was fed by Marco Estrada and with time and space at his disposal, he finished coolly from six yards to temporarily peg scores at 1-1 in the 31st minute.
It was not to be Utaka’s night though as Bastia hit back through goals from Anthony Modeste and Florian Thauvin to record an emphatic win.
Utaka has made 30 appearances for Montpellier in all competitions this season.
