U.S. inmates at large after killing two prison guards during bus transport

Police are searching for two inmates who escaped after shooting two prison guards dead while being transported in a bus Tuesday morning in Putnam County in the southern U.S. state of Georgia.
The incident happened early in the morning on Highway 16, near Sparta. Police have shut down the roadway and are searching for the two men after the incident, the county’s sheriff office said.
“While we do not have any details at this time, we can confirm we are investigating an incident that occurred in that area this morning,” said Joan Heath with the Georgia Department of Corrections in a statement.
The two inmates at large are described as white males while a witness reported to the police that the men escaped in a dark green Honda, local media reported.
