The Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal has relocated to Abuja for security reasons.
This is contained in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja by Mrs Deborah Musa, the Secretary of the tribunal.
The statement said that the relocation was approved by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa.
The statement said Justice Ishaq Bello, the acting Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, approved the FCT High Court, Apo, as the secretariat and trial court for the tribunal.

  1. Why? For what security reasons? What makes Abuja safer, especially under an APC leadership? Moving the said Tribunal to Abuja smacks of a conflict of interest. The APC is an interested party to this matter and one cannot in all fairness shift a tribunal designated “Rivers State Elections Tribunal” to Abuja, the soon to be seat of power for the APC. Is this to say that for any state where the threat of violence is suspected, such state’s tribunal will have to move to Abuja or Rivers state merely the exception? Then why bother with establishing them in states? It was for a purpose that this was done in the first place and shifting tribunals to the comfort zones of a party invested with power defeats that purpose.
