In fulfilment of his campaign promises, the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration has started the construction of three bridges which were hitherto narrow along Imeko Afon and Agosasa- Ipokia road in Ogun State.
These narrow bridges, which had claimed many lives and properties over the years are situated at Odo-Oyo and Afon along Imeko-Afon road in Imeko-Afon Local Government and at Odo-Oniru in Agosasa, Ipokia Local Government Area.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Olamilekan Adegbite, who made this known during an inspection of the bridges, said the works are being done by contractors who are experts in bridge construction
Adegbite said the Amosun decided to put an end to unnecessary waste of lives and properties along the three axis by immediately awarding the contract and mobilizing contractors to sites without any delay.
He added that construction of the three bridges has started in earnest, saying that the bridges would have four carriage lanes each to give enough space for vehicles plying the roads.
Accordingly to him, “construction of the bridges had started simultaneously at Odo-Oyo, Odo-Afon in Imeko-Afon and Odo-Oniru in Ipokia, they were issues raised during the campaign tours of the Governor to the areas”.
The commissioner said new bridges were being constructed in place of the already weak narrow ones which were constructed many decades ago.
When completed, the bridges are expected to reduce hours spent in traffic on the roads, reduce carriage often experienced and open up the areas to industrial growth and development.
