Former Senate President, David Mark, has congratulated former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on his emergence as the presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 general elections.
Mark in a statement by Aba Ejembi, spokesperson of his Presidential Campaign Organisation in Abuja on Monday, urged Nigerians to support Abubakar’s candidature.
The senator who was also a presidential aspirant at the party’s convention on October 6 at Port Harcourt, Rivers, pledged his support to Abubakar to ensure victory for the PDP in the elections.
“I have maintained throughout my electioneering campaign that all the presidential aspirants in in our great party, including Abubakar, were eminently qualified to provide excellent leadership for the nation.
“I also pledged that as a faithful and steadfast party man, I would support anyone of them who emerged the flag bearer of the PDP,” he said.
Mark said he believed implicitly that “power comes from God alone and He gives it to whom He wills and when He wills.”
The former senate president also congratulated delegates to the PDP National Convention for their comportment at the event.
He said that: “the PDP had demonstrated that it is indeed a party of patriots and true democrats.”
He also appreciated the Government and people of Rivers for their hospitality.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State also congratulated Atiku.
Tambuwal, in a letter addressed to Atiku, dated October 8, pledged to support his presidential bid.
Atiku scored 1,532 votes to clinch the ticket, with Tambuwal who got 693 votes being the closest opponent in the party’s elective convention held in Port Harcourt.
“On behalf of myself, my family, and millions of my supporters from across the length and breadth of the country, I heartily rejoice with and congratulate you on your emergence as the flag bearer of our great political party, the PDP.
“Your emergence through a transparent process is a testament to the fact that the PDP is now a reformed party and has sent a strong signal about our resolve to bring about the desired national transformation needed to turn around the fortunes of our beloved nation Nigeria,” he said.
Tambuwal promised to work with Atiku to ensure that he emerged victorious in the 2019 general elections, and urged members of the PDP to roll up their sleeves to ensure victory for it.
Former Plateau governor, Senator Jonah Jang, also congratulated Atiku.
Jang, who also contested alongside Atiku and 10 others, said in a statement on Monday in Jos that the victory was well-deserved and he would support the party’s candidate to win in 2019.
“On behalf of my campaign team and teeming supporters, I hereby congratulate Atiku Abubakar for a deserved victory and accept in totality the outcome of the Primary Elections.
“As a loyal member and responsible stakeholder of our party, I hereby pledge to support and work for the actualisation of the anticipated Atiku Abubakar presidency; a presidency which I strongly believe will have answers to the multifaceted problems confronting the nation.”
The former governor urged Atiku to pay special attention to the challenges confronting the people of Middle Belt, particularly the countless killing of innocent citizens by ” faceless” gunmen, when he becomes president.
He advised the candidate to make the security and welfare of the middle belters his top priority.
Jang commended the Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee and the Dr Ifeanyi Okowa-led Convention committee for organising a hitch-free and transparent convention.
Another contestant during the primaries, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), also congratulated Atiku.
In a congratulatory letter, Turaki noted that Atiku’s victory bore eloquent testimony to his prowess as a formidable politician with a vast network of supporters.

The former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs said also that the emergence of the former Vice President as PDP’s candidate attested to his widely-acknowledged attribute of building bridges of friendship across the various divides in the country.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria noted that the former Vice President has the requisite knowledge, experience and political sagacity to defeat the candidate of the ruling party, APC or any other candidate that may want to pose a formidable challenge to him and their party at the presidential poll.

Turaki noted further that the same attributes of knowledge, experience and political astuteness which the former Vice President has garnered in both the public and private sectors as well as in politics, stand him in good stead to tackle contemporary challenges facing the nation.

While wishing Atiku good health, God’s guidance and provision as he embarks on another campaign trail, this time to secure the votes of the electorate, Turaki assured him of his full support and collaboration and that of his political organization and network to ensure resounding victory at the 2019 Presidential election.
The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) described Atiku’s emergence as the best for the party.
The state Publicity Secretary, Mr Taofik Gani, in congratulatory message in Lagos, described the victory of the former Vice-President as well-deserved.
He also said his emergence at the party’s convention on Sunday in Port-Harcourt reflected the confidence the party had in him to lead the country.
Gani, however, said though Atiku emerged as candidate, the real winner was the party, as the convention was conducted peacefully devoid of acrimony or violence.
“Indeed, the winner of the election is the party which ensured that the election went free, fair and credible that all the other contestants accepted the results and agreed to work with the winner in the general elections.
“This shuts out post-convention acrimony or defections, thus disappointing detractors who were waiting to see our party fight out of the exercise,” he said.
Gani said that the success of the convention was proof that the country’s democracy could be better managed by the PDP
The Publicity Secretary, therefore, appealed to Nigerians to give the party another opportunity to manage the country.
He commended party leaders across the country for moving the party out of its trying times.
Gani said the PDP was getting better in Lagos and expressed the confidence that the party would win the state in 2019.
