Sheik Muhammad Albani, a prominent Islamic scholar in Zaria, Kaduna State, was on Saturday night, shot dead, alongside his wife and son.
Albani was aged 54 according to his family.
Relations, friends and Muslim faithful, were busy preparing for the cleric’s funeral, slated for 10 a.m. Sunday when NAN correspondent visited his residence.
One of the relations, Malam Muhammad Usman, who spoke on behalf of the deceased’s family, confirmed that Albani was attacked on his way home after leaving the venue of his daily Islamic class, “Daril Hadith” at Tudun Wada area of Zaria at about 10:30 p.m.
Usman said the gunmen’s identity could not be ascertained as the attack was carried out late in the night, with no witnesses to the incident.
However, all efforts to get official confirmation from the police proved abortive and they are yet to issue any statement on the incident.
